Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the food prepared?

All food is prepared in a certified commercial kitchen and delivered to the client's home on an agreed upon date.

What do you need from me?

One shelf in the refrigerator and plenty of freezer space - Food handling and safety is critical to me. So that I can quickly and safely store your fresh groceries, please have at least one shelf cleared in the refrigerator. The amount of freezer space needed will depend upon the number of servings I prepare for you. For a standard service, there could be as many as 20 containers.

How will the food be packaged?

Uniform size containers take up less storage space in your refrigerator and freezer. Disposable containers are included in your service. This will eliminate the need to keep rotating and cleaning containers. If you have environmental concerns about using the disposable containers, we can discuss using special Pyrex containers.

How difficult is it to heat the meals?

Heating the meals is easy and convenient. I will leave detailed heating instructions for each mea.

What about thawing frozen food?

Safe food handling is very important. Please always defrost your food in the refrigerator for 24 to 48 hours in advance. Never leave food out on the counter to thaw as this can be very dangerous for food borne bacteria growth.

How long will the food last?

I work with each client to determine the best level of service depending on the client’s lifestyle; however, if you have chosen to have refrigerated (versus frozen) selections in your menu, please note that these should be eaten within three days of service or frozen.

What’s included in the service?

Each service includes menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, packaging and includes the cost of containers. Groceries are charged as an addition to the service fee. The number of servings of each meal depends on the size of your family, but generally no less than four. I am happy to customize a service to fit your needs.

How do you plan my menu?

After our initial consultation, having reviewed the preferences you have indicated on your questionnaire, I will plan a menu for your approval. Alternatively, you may request specific meals or a particular type of meal. After the first service I will take into account your comments and feedback on the meals you have tried. You are always welcome to change your suggested menu, but please do so at least 48 hours in advance of your cooking day.

How often should I schedule my meal service?

I will follow-up with you after your first service discuss what timeframe will work best in your schedule to meet your needs. I have weekly, bimonthly, and monthly service schedules available. Naturally, if you have a special request for service I will do my best to accommodate your needs.

What if I need to reschedule a service date or I don’t want to continue with the service?

Of course, things happen in all of our very busy lives. Please try and give me as much notice as possible if you are going to need to move or cancel your meal service.

How is payment made?

Checks may be left in an agreed upon spot (counter, refrigerator, etc.) on the day of service. Please make checks out to Dinner Made Simple.
