Old Fashioned Gingerbread
1 cup butter and shortening, mixed
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cloves
4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1-1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon mace
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup Stein’s syrup
1 cup hot water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream the shortening and sugar. Add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with the eggs, syrup and hot water. Beat until smooth. bake in well greased and floured 9 by 13 inch baking pan for one hour or until done when tested with a toothpick.
