How to Thaw Food Properly

It’s important to know that freezing does not kill microorganisms. If frozen food is thawed and exposed to the temperature danger zone, any foodborne microorganisms that are present will begin to grow. Therefore, food should never be thawed at room temperature. The safest way to thaw frozen food is in the refrigerator. Another way is to thaw under running water that is 70F or lower. You may also thaw frozen food in the microwave if the food will be cooked immediately after thawing. And of course, food may be thawed as part of the cooking process.
